WITH A NOTEBOOK??

That’s right.  With a notebook.  Write things down, or at least keep them listed in your electronic gadgets.  Like the Google folks say, you don’t have to stress over remembering something if you can access it easily.  So, find a scheduling system that will work for you.   There is a really good web site I ran across recently, www.organizedhome.com that has good content offered in a user friendly format.  Getting organized involves not only trying to stay above the clutter in your surroundings, it also means getting yourself and/or your family to their activities on time.  Have you ever missed an event that you really wanted to participate in simply because you forgot it was ‘tonight’?  Yeah, me too.  It’s one thing to choose not to be somewhere, but I really hate just forgetting.

ARE YOU IN CHARGE?

If there are family members or others whose schedule effects yours, then you need a plan to keep these schedules organized.  Why does this matter?

  • Meal planning.  Who has to be where is always a factor in deciding what is an appropriate meal to serve.  If you will not arrive at the house until 7:00PM after a long day at work and then picking up kids from activities, well, dinner plans need to be super easy.
  • Transportation arrangements.  On those evenings when several people have activities, planning ahead may make the difference between arriving late or not at all.  I really dislike paying for activities and then letting the kids miss because I messed up the transportation!
  • Stress.  You may be juggling a dozen critically important things at work, that kid is only worried about getting to baseball practice on time.  Being more organized will help you decrease the stress in your life.
  • Save money in oh so many ways!  Like, as I mentioned, not missing activities you have to pay for any way-but also, this will help you not over schedule you or your family.  It is still true, no one can be in two places at one time.  Really.

THE HECK YOU GET ONE OF THESE NOTEBOOKS?

I am so glad you asked.  At that little old web site I mentioned above, and will stick at the end of this post also, is a good site.  Don’t forget that every family situation is different and their notebook needs will be different.  Being the major cheapo that I am, I would and have, bought in small quantities and tried out a new system to see if it can ‘be my own’.  You know, meet my needs to a satisfactory degree.

The whole notebook idea is tried and true.  Jump in and try it.  Especially if you have kids who are starting back to school soon and things are about to become crazy again at your house.
